The Most Significant Thing We Can Do (Homily)

Updated: Jun 26

Sunday's Gospel bespeaks of the beginnings of Christianity. Andrew says yes to Jesus' call first, then tells Simon Peter, his brother, who also says yes to Christ. These two started the evangelization of the world in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And from that moment comes the universal, evangelical call to work for Christian sisterhood and brotherhood.

That is why, even today, we look at the lives of the apostles and the saints and ask ourselves, "what do we need to do to live the faith in unity, love, mercy and joy?" Simply put, it is our job (and joy) to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Holy Trinity, and the Holy Eucharist, as well as lives of prayer and sacrifice and mercy, to others and to the world. This is the most significant thing we can do: know and follow Christ and the Spirit and bring others to them.
