Transfiguration: A Life of Deep Interior Desire (Homily)

The Feast of the Transfiguration has great meaning for us in the spiritual life. It not only reveals the eternal glory of Christ (salvation), the importance of Moses (ecclesiastical authority) and the significance of Elijah (prophetic authority) but also discloses the indispensability of immersing the entire self in prayer.

Just as Peter, James, and John were completely engrossed in that moment, we too are called to offer our entire physical, emotional, intellectual, relational, and spiritual life to God in prayer. This is akin to the experience of Mary at the Annunciation, and the apostles and disciples at Pentecost.

Ponder: God reveals Himself in the sacramental life, through the love we share with others, and our own deeply held desire and intention to be in His presence through silence and stillness (hesychia).

Pray: "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner."
