Reflecting on the Holy Spirit

Updated: 4 days ago

St. Basil the Great,

You stood in a time of confusion,

When the Spirit's glory was questioned,

His Divinity doubted.

Careful, wise, and rooted in prayer,

You gave the Church words to hold onto.

You taught that the Holy Spirit is

Not a creature,

Not a servant,

Not a gift somehow separate from the Trinity.

You demonstrated that the Spirit is

Equal to the Father and the Son.

Worthy of the same honor

Worthy of the same worship

Worthy of the same love.

In this way,

Today and every day,

I confess that You, O Holy Spirit, are God.

You hovered over the waters.

You spoke through the prophets.

You descended on the apostles.

And now You dwell in me,

Giving me life and

Calling me to the fullness of God.

I worship You.

Not as an afterthought,

Not as an appendix to the Trinity, but as the

One who sanctifies,

Who perfects,

Who makes the unknowable God known in my heart.

Through the intercession of St. Basil the Great, Most Holy Spirit, save me from myself, and sanctify me.
